Luisa Kasalicky und Siegfried Zaworka
artists in residence
10. 08 - 31. 08. 2019
curated by Meina Schellander
on site coordination: Romana Egartner
Diametrales interpunktiert: Janusbühne
The Janus head, derived from Janus, originally God of the beginning and the end - familiar as a motif for Roman coins, Memento Mori carving, picture elements of Art Brut and Outsider Art - was also the title of the horror silent film by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau: a relationship generated by the jangling of polarities, adaptation and derailment, transforming construction to destruction vice versa - Jekyll eliminates itself with Hyde. ... target - duplicate - differ - oscillate - hybridize - asynchronize...
With the project Diametric one punctuated: Janus Stage is first of all attempted to explore the intersection of the characteristics of very different modes of reception of two media areas - installation and performance. The installation designed in the course of the stay in krastal by Kasalicky and Zaworka: the exhibition architecture and stage design with its plastic set pieces is a kind of exhibition, but also serves as a surround for performances that are to take place on the double-sided recordable Janus stage. The juxtaposition of the diametrical artistic positions corresponds here to a usability of the front and the back of the stage-like structure. The combination of Kasalicky's and Zaworka's works as well as the selection of performance artists results from their proximity to staged installation, stage design, backdrop and decoration painting, art and performance in public space as well as music performance.
